When I started Indy Women Physical Therapy almost 2 years ago my “why” was very clear….to help reach as many women that I could and educate about the issues they don’t have to live with or accept. Some of these include incontinence, pelvic pain, painful sex and issues after cancer treatments, such as limited mobility and shoulder pain after breast cancer (among many others). As a small private clinic here in the Indianapolis region, I want to be known as the place women can come and feel validated, heard, accepted while receiving great treatment in a caring environment.
As a healthcare provider I have worked in other settings such as hospitals or other outpatient clinics. The downfall is that you start to see quality of care dwindle, as insurance companies start to dictate how patients are treated, and clinicians feel the pressure of making productivity and having to see more patients to avoid disciplinary measures. This is not what health care should be about. That is not why I became a Physical Therapist.
My goal is to treat women the way they should be treated. Give them the time they deserve. Not to let outside forces decide treatments or number of visits. Treat ethically and give patients what they need, no more or no less.
I have enjoyed my journey from “clinician” to entrepreneur. Part of that journey has involved stepping outside of my “comfort zone.” I think we can all relate to this! Following my “why” has kept me on this path and made me face certain situations that I thought I would never do! When I was asked to do a podcast last month in front of 15,000 people, my first thought was no way I could never do that! But then my “why” became clear again, it’s not about me, it’s about the women I serve.
So at the end of the day and with a New Year right around the corner don’t be afraid to Follow Your Dreams! Step outside of your “box” and challenge yourself! One of my favorite quotes is from Prince Ea when he says “Doubt has killed more dreams than failure ever did.”
I have attached the podcast I did below. Happy New Year everyone!
